You can’t change speeds on the fly, though. The two-speed settings combine with a variable speed trigger for control. On low, you’ll get up to 4600 RPM and up to 5800 RPM on high. Like we’ve seen in many Pro-level battery-powered string trimmers, the M18 Fuel has two-speed settings. As far as the kit goes, it will come with a 9.0 amp hour battery. That means no matter what Milwaukee batteries you have, from compact to high-capacity, you can power the string trimmer with it. They’d lose money if the charged what realistically should cost about $25-$50 to do (only counting the time it actually takes to cut down a few branches and throw them in the chipper).Milwaukee M18 Fuel String Trimmer Key Features Fuelįor starters, the Milwaukee M18 Fuel String Trimmer runs on Milwaukee’s M18 battery platform. They’ve got to pay someone to drive there, do the job, and drive back (or the next job). Even if it never got used after the first time, it was worth it from a financial standpoint.Ī landscaper isn’t going to come to a job for less than the cost of the pole saw attachment. I’ve used it twice since the initial time. So I bought the pole saw and saved a minimum of $25. They charge $175 minimum to come to a job. Guy said they were behind schedule and couldn’t come over. I walked over and asked how much to do the branches. There was a landscaping crew working at my neighbor’s house across the street. I needed a few dead branches cut off a couple trees. I don’t have much frequent use for my pole saw. I'll keep them and still grab them sometimes just for fun, but from a quality and capability standpoint the M18 stuff is right there. I've had the Echo stuff for over 10 years, and it's been great. Again, for heavier duty / all day type jobs, gas might make more sense. Pros relative to gas: Quieter, cleaner, instant start / ready.Ĭons relative to gas: Maybe a little less power / grunt (?), but still plenty to do the jobs they're intended to do. Thought it would struggle, especially relative to my gas one, but it does a really good job. I can usually line trim, hedge trim, edge, and blow the ~ two acres of actual lawn, shrubs, etc. I have a 12 battery, but find the 6 and 8 batteries I have work great as well. like brush cutting big areas or fall leaves (but I have a Cyclone Rake for leaves). Gas versions would come in handy for really big / long jobs. The M18 stuff does everything I need, 99% of the time. I have a nice set of Echo 2 cycle gear as well (line trimmer, blower, edger). which is homeowner, ~4 acres (2 lawn), with lots of trees, bushes, trimming, etc. They're all quality tools and work well, at least for my use case. I also have the blower, chainsaw, and hedge trimmer. I have the full Quik Lok setup and it's worth it. The attachment is way too awkward to be used as a regular height and lower trimmer. Regular height and below stuff, standalone hedge trimmer. I did that for a summer.Įdit: I have the hedge trimmer attachment and the standalone hedge trimmer. Regular batteries with just the string trimmer are definitely serviceable. Or at least don’t buy the pole saw or hedge trimmer attachments. If you have no plans to ever get HO batteries, don’t buy it. If you’ve only got non-HO batteries and don’t plan on pushing it with the attachments, it’ll get by ok for the time being. String trimmer with string trimmer head is pretty comfortable with a shoulder strap. Its a matter of getting your holding angles right, but it’s still heavier than anything like Ryobi. But they’re high quality and get through any realistic stuff easily. The pole saw and moderately thick branches will heat up a non-HO battery pretty quickly.Īttachments are heavy and will give you a shoulder workout. It’s definitely worth going with that or higher instead. Fresh off the charger, and fully drained literally the second I was done. Trimmed the perimeter of my 1600 sq ft house, about 75 total feet of hedges, about 100 ft of fence (200 because I do both sides of it), and trimming up some low hanging branches of a cedar tree. One time, I did my whole property exactly with a 5.0 battery. If I was doing huge properties with a ton of overgrowth, I’d go with a pro grade gas unit(s). I own the string trimmer with hedge trimmer and pole saw attachments.
